Excellent! Everyone who works at Oasis was really, really nice (except one person who was grumpy and gave us some seriously wrong information, but someone told me she was new?). My partner and I invited a lot of friends down for a long weekend of camping, followed by a wedding (to each other), and the Oasis crew was so nice and accommodating that we didn't need to worry about any camping logistics (on top of worrying about wedding logistics).
Overall review of Oasis: Great communication, great accommodations, reasonably priced... I would definitely return to Oasis.
I love the great sand dunes. But the great sand dunes Oasis is such a fun place too camp and eat with there great food and great staff and a bigger kid with a backwards hat gave me great advice on what fun places too go in and around alamosa!
We stopped by here to grab some lunch and rent sand boards for our visit to the dunes. Service was great but I felt that the stand up board rentals were overpriced at $21 nor were they very good in the sand. The sit down sleds were better but still very tough to get going.
We also rented out the Oasis Duplex motel for wedding prep headquarters, and it was a great space for wedding gathering, staging, storage, prep, and getting showered/dressed for the ceremony. They are astoundingly generous with their pillows and towels. We accidentally missed check-in time and when the Oasis office closed for the day a lovely staff person drove the key over to the Duplex and told us we could pay the next day instead.
General Manager Valynn was exceptional. She gave us special pricing for large camping group (with guests arriving over the course of several days), and helped lost members of our party locate us. She also made it easy for us to invite friends who were not camping to enjoy an evening campfire with us at the campsite. The young man in the car check shed was really friendly and let members of our party enter the campsite without car passes (we had the passes at our campsite). The campsite is pretty primitive (which I enjoyed thoroughly), but with a surprisingly clean bathroom. The campground has nice views, is quiet, and feels relatively secluded given that there are more than 150 campsites.
Of note: The restaurant stops serving breakfast at 11 (which is also check-out time), and there are very few gluten free or veggie options on the lunch menu. So if you want to eat breakfast at the restaurant do so before you check-out, not after. If you prefer not to eat meat and/or gluten, don't eat here. They have good pie.
Don't depend on these people to rent you a sand board. We stopped to rent one, and they said they weren't renting because the sand was wet and the boards wouldn't work. Even after some discussion, the guy at the front counter still wouldn't rent it. Got to the dunes and tons of people had boards and they were working fine. Turns out, wet sand it even better than dry sand. So, after driving 8 hours to slide down sand, we didn't because they couldn't be bothered. Rent yours in Alamosa.
We stayed here because campsites within the national park were filled. We were very lucky to get on at Oasis since it is as close to the national park as you can get! We had a beautiful campsite with a great view and access to bathrooms with running water and showers, a general store, and even a restaurant. The drive to the national park was only about 5 minutes and to get to the sand dune access area, about 15 minutes. Definitely recommend it!
Returning the boards was easy and again, great service.
